A Month of Camps
This past month has been super exciting for us as we were able to hold 4 different camps including one in Mozambique while our students and interns were in Durban. We are so grateful to have been able to see the Lord work through each of these camps and excited to share with you about them.
Potchefstroom Satellite Camp
We kicked off our month of camps with a Satellite Camp in Potchefstroom, serving alongside Lance, one of our associates, and the church he pastors. The last time we shared with you about the church it was basically a kids church and they were trying to reach out more to the adults in the community. It is a privilege to see what the Lord is doing in True Word Bible church to reach out to the community with the gospel and how he has grown the church. True Word Bible church is no longer just a kids ministry but is now reaching many adults too. They are now able to separate the church in two to have kid's Sunday School as well as a service for the adults. It is encouraging to see Pastor Lance doing small groups throughout the week in different homes and the testimony that he is in the community as he shares Christ. Pastor Lance has also started an after school program to help kids in the community with homework and learning English. While we were there, we had a weekend Satellite Camp and used our team of Genesis students and interns to go with us and serve alongside Pastor Lance. Each day we had around 120 kids and teens come to the camp. Around 40 trusted in Christ as their personal Savior including others we got to share with through door to door evangelism. It is amazing to see what the Lord continues to do in the community and how important it is for us to reachout and do follow up. Continue to pray for Pastor Lance and his family as they follow up with those we had the opportunity to minister to. Pray that God would use them to reach the community in different ways so that others to would know and trust Him as their personal Saviour.Young Adults Camp
The weekend following the Patch Camp, we held the first of what we hope to be many young adults camps. We had a group of 16 young adults. It went well for the first camp but we look forward to having more events for young adults who where once teenagers attending our summer camps and are now young professionals and university students. We hope to encourage them to continue to trust in Christ and live for Him in every season of life.
Mozambique Camp
It was such a blessing to be able to return to Moz to help with camp after not being able to have it for the past two years. We had a full camp with lots of new faces and a total of 57 campers. We also had several of our former campers return as counselors and one, Paulo, who helped lead the camp which was such an encouragement to see how God has continued his work in their lives and has shown his faithfulness in these last 12 years of serving there. Some of the campers who have been coming to camp have become missionaries and others are serving at their local churches in Mozambique. Others have fallen by the way side, but God is still good because they are still in contact with Paulo, who also assists with the school ministry throughout the year, and Miss Welma, the teacher at the school who organises camp. Now with new campers who did not know what Word of Life camp is and are still figuring out what the gospel is about, we decided on the theme 'back to the basics.' We taught about who God is and who Jesus is and what he has done for us. Even though no one trusted Christ as their personal Saviour this camp, it actually started good conversations between campers and counselors and many of the campers are really searching and trying to understand what a relationship with God is all about. Please be praying as many of the kids come from muslim families and find it hard to trust in Christ. But they have great questions and we pray that as Paulo, Miss Welma and others continue to minister to them through weekly bible studies and discipleship groups at school, that the Lord would continue to soften their hearts and bring them to Him.
We are so thankful for your love, care, encouragement and involvement in our ministry. It is such a blessing! We pray that the Lord continues to bless you and use you to further his kingdom!
Please pray...
- For wisdom and faithfulness in each of the ministries we are a part of both with WOL and at our church- Group of 28 coming in from the US for a missions trip (April 29-May 7). Pray that it will be a fruitful time of ministry
- Upcoming Women's Conference (June 11). Pray for Ashley as she helps take the lead in preparing for it
- For a continued healthy pregnancy
- For Durban as they have had extreme flooding with many homes destroyed and hundredsof people dead. Pray also for our team there as they make repairs to the WOL property
