The Start to a New Year

We hope you had a wonderful and restful Christmas and New Year's celebrating all God has done for us. 2021 was another interesting year for sure but we are so thankful to the Lord for all he's done and thankful to have been able to have you all be a part of this journey.

Staff Conference

We started off the year with our annual staff conference. It was really a blessing to spend time with our staff and interns for this year as we looked at the year ahead, brainstormed, and connected through some fun activities like bowling and a high ropes course. It was such a refreshing time together to kick off the new year. We are so thankful for the team God has allowed us to be a part of!

The Genesis Program

Our Discipleship Training Center program has had a bit of a makeover! Same values, same goals with a bit of a different format and new name. We chose the name "Genesis Program" because we really wanted to communicate that this is just the beginning of a life-long journey of growing in the Lord and serving him. Instead of a one year program, we split it into 2 with an intake in February and July to allow students more flexibility and opportunity to be involved in the case they begin university in the second part of the year or get through the first half of the year realizing that things did not go quite the way they had planned and allowing them to take advantage of the opportunity to join the program for the second half of the year. We look forward to seeing how God uses these changes to continue to transform the lives of these young adults.

Last weekend we went on a hike with our Genesis Program students and interns. It was a great time getting to know them better.


Leaders Kickoff

We had a great time kicking off another year of ministry alongside the youth and children's leaders from the various local churches we work with. We met in 4 different locations and 3 different provinces including 2 locations in Joburg, 1 In Potchefstroom, and another in Welkom. We had leaders present from 16 churches with a total of 100 different leaders. It was a great time together being encouraged in God's Word, brainstorming how to better do ministry, and spending time connecting with one another. Can't wait to see how God uses each of these leaders.

















Family Update

- we are expecting another little one due August 4! We are so excited and grateful.

- with our growing family, we have decided to invest in buying a house. We hope to move in in April. We are so thankful for the Lord's provision in this.

- Trip to Cape Town (Feb 23-28) to connect with local churches and leaders and hold a Leaders Kickoff

- For our Genesis program students as they begin this new journey

- For the final steps in buying our first home and that we would use it to be a blessing to others.

- that those the Lord has chosen to add to our team would be able to get the visas & support they need (we hope for them to arrive in March)

- that we would be faithful in all God has entrusted to us

Camps Near & Far

It’s been a while since our last update and so much has happened since we arrived back from furlough. Thato took a trip to Zimbabwe to help with some camps alongside the WOL Zim team, we assisted with our church’s Holiday Bible Club (VBS) as well as a winter camp alongside one of the churches we partner with in the East Rand.    Our team also continued with our annual camps happening at Potchefstroom (True Word Bible Church) and Mozambique (Trichardt School). The biggest thing that has happened over these past few months though it that we welcomed our third baby girl, Aliyah Mphonyana (translated ‘little gift’ in Sotho) 3 weeks early. We are thankful for the smooth delivery of our sweet Aliyah on Thato’s birthday (June 4) The pastors cooking for the campers Zimbabwe I had a privilege to go to Zimbabwe after coming back from furlough to help teach at camp. There & Back Again

It's been a month now since we returned to South Africa and have been settling back into a normal rhythm. We are so thankful for the time we had on furlough to reconnect with friends, family and supporters. It really was such an encouraging time and though it was quite busy with lots of traveling, it was also refreshing. We started out our time with some downtime with our family over the Christmas holidays. It was a wonderful and special time especially since it was the last time we were able to spend with Ashley's Pop Pop before he went home to be with the Lord in March.  We officially began our furlough the first week of January as we caught up with friends and supporters and shared in churches in Abaco, Spanish Wells and Nassau (3 different islands). We were so overwhelmed by the love, generosity and care we felt as we visited with different people and churches. Weeping & Rejoicing

The Lord gives & the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. This last month has held some really high highs and some really low lows. There has been weeping and rejoicing. But through it all, we continue to say through tears and smiles, "blessed be the name of the Lord". Just a few weeks ago, Thato and I joyfully received the news that in less than 7 months, we would become parents to our first baby. We were ecstatic and so thankful for this gift the Lord had given us. However, the excitement was short lived. Just 5 days after discovering I was pregnant, we were told by the doctor that we had a miscarriage. Though we had only known about the pregnancy for less than a week, we were devastated to hear that we had lost our baby. We struggled to understand exactly why the Lord had allowed this but we continued to trust that He is good and faithful and that he would use it for our good and His glory.
