Cape Town Partnerships

This past month has held quite a bit of opportunity for ministry and connection and partnership with local churches all over South Africa. At the end of May, we traveled to Cape Town to visit with and encourage the pastors we work with there. Our time in Cape Town is always such a blessing as we connect with our fellow laborers in the gospel. As much as we went to encourage, we were encouraged by the pastors to see what the Lord is doing through the churches in their local communities. As a  family, we always come away from these trips blessed, challenged and super encouraged by their testimonies and faithful service to him. 

Joburg Partnerships

On June 5, we had our first Woman of Worth conference for the year. It was such a great time to gather together again with ladies from 11 different churches as we looked at the life of Mary Magdalene and what it looks like to be 'Radically Changed'. This year, we really sought to be intentional about reaching out to more unsaved/unchurched ladies through this conference and we praise the Lord that one woman chose to trust Christ for salvation and experience the change that can only come from him. What a blessing! We also decided to include and optional craft time at the end which offered the ladies the opportunity to spend a bit more time together while enjoying some relaxing activities together. We had such a great time!

Limpopo Partnerships

Besides Cape Town, I (Thato) got to go to Limpopo to visit Shawn, one of the missionaries that we partner with in doing kids ministry. The purpose of this visit was to plan a camp that will be taking place in October with 3 different churches in Limpopo. We will be focusing on kids ministry and teens ministry with the churches and working alongside Kobus, the missionary who plants churches and schools in the area. What a great time to partner with them to both to train and equip the youth ministers down in Limpopo. Please be praying for us as team as we partner with the churches in reaching the community.

Please be praying for us and our team as we face this third wave of covid as several or our staff, interns and students are infected. Praise the Lord they all seem to have mild cases but please pray for quick recoveries and health for the rest of us. Also be praying that this third wave would come to an end quickly, that the Lord would use us to be a comfort and light, and that we would be able to continue with the various ministries we have planned over the next month.

We are so thankful for your love, care, encouragement and involvement in our ministry. It is such a blessing! We pray that the Lord continues to bless you and use you to further his kingdom!

- for us to continue to grow in our marriage and as parents

- for discipleship relationships with students and interns

- that the Lord would continue to grow and add to our team

- that we would be faithful in all God has entrusted to us

- upcoming camps/missions trip to Potchefstroom (July 9-11) & Hazyview (July17-25)

- our team members who have covid

- that the third wave of covid cases would come to an end quickly and for the many infected at the moment

Camps Near & Far

It’s been a while since our last update and so much has happened since we arrived back from furlough. Thato took a trip to Zimbabwe to help with some camps alongside the WOL Zim team, we assisted with our church’s Holiday Bible Club (VBS) as well as a winter camp alongside one of the churches we partner with in the East Rand.    Our team also continued with our annual camps happening at Potchefstroom (True Word Bible Church) and Mozambique (Trichardt School). The biggest thing that has happened over these past few months though it that we welcomed our third baby girl, Aliyah Mphonyana (translated ‘little gift’ in Sotho) 3 weeks early. We are thankful for the smooth delivery of our sweet Aliyah on Thato’s birthday (June 4) The pastors cooking for the campers Zimbabwe I had a privilege to go to Zimbabwe after coming back from furlough to help teach at camp. There & Back Again

It's been a month now since we returned to South Africa and have been settling back into a normal rhythm. We are so thankful for the time we had on furlough to reconnect with friends, family and supporters. It really was such an encouraging time and though it was quite busy with lots of traveling, it was also refreshing. We started out our time with some downtime with our family over the Christmas holidays. It was a wonderful and special time especially since it was the last time we were able to spend with Ashley's Pop Pop before he went home to be with the Lord in March.  We officially began our furlough the first week of January as we caught up with friends and supporters and shared in churches in Abaco, Spanish Wells and Nassau (3 different islands). We were so overwhelmed by the love, generosity and care we felt as we visited with different people and churches. Weeping & Rejoicing

The Lord gives & the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. This last month has held some really high highs and some really low lows. There has been weeping and rejoicing. But through it all, we continue to say through tears and smiles, "blessed be the name of the Lord". Just a few weeks ago, Thato and I joyfully received the news that in less than 7 months, we would become parents to our first baby. We were ecstatic and so thankful for this gift the Lord had given us. However, the excitement was short lived. Just 5 days after discovering I was pregnant, we were told by the doctor that we had a miscarriage. Though we had only known about the pregnancy for less than a week, we were devastated to hear that we had lost our baby. We struggled to understand exactly why the Lord had allowed this but we continued to trust that He is good and faithful and that he would use it for our good and His glory.
