Kids Camp

We kicked off summer camp with Kids Camp & welcomed over 100 kids onto our property for a weekend that could shape the rest of their lives. During that short weekend, 4 came to trust Christ as their personal Savior. We don't know the other decisions made in these young hearts but we trust that the Lord was & is at work in the lives of each of those children. We are so thankful for the counselors who allowed themselves to be used by the Lord in our camper's lives.


 









Teen Camp

It was truly a blessing to see the challenge that we had at camp this year as we were challenged to DO SOMETHING. One of the things that I like about camp is not only that the students are challenged but everyone is challenged by the word of God. During teen camp, we had a dedication service and it was so great to see what everyone had been challenged to do in taking their relationship with the Lord seriously. One of the most exciting & encouraging things that happened this year was that one of the WOL students brought his sister, Maria, to camp so that she could hear the gospel & really be challenged by God's word. On the day of the dedication service, Maria trusted in Christ Jesus as her personal Saviour. What a huge praise to the Lord for his work, his faithfulness & his answer to prayer. She was one of 7 that made the decision to trust in Christ that week in addition to many more who rededicated their lives to the Lord.
We are so thankful for our awesome counselors!

"I am in awe of how much the Lord can use me if I just heed to His voice and let him take charge! This past week was a LOT! I can truly say that serving alongside all the other counsellors was such an honour and great privilege! Lord I am truly humbled that you still chose to use me despite all my flaws. A huge shout out to Word of Life South Africa for hosting Summer camps year in and year out. They truly do impact hundreds of lives! I was blessed by my campers and just their hunger to learn more about God's word and better their spiritual walk. I feel like I'm the one that walks away more changed and challenged. One of my many highlights was a camper who challenged me in so many ways. She made me work to let her open up and really be her friend. During the week I struggled to get close to her but at the end, as the vehicle she was in was about to drive off, she jumped out and raced to give me the tightest hug and just thanked me. It made me realize that I shouldn't be so quick to give up on people. Just to keep praying and lifting them to the Lord because He truly does listen to our prayers. To have been part of such a life changing camp really makes me emotional because we still live in the part of the world were we can open our Bibles and discuss Christ openly without any fear of persecution! We serve an intentional God who meets us at our exact point of need and what an encouragement to have had Pastor Thomas preach God's word as the Lord would have him! I honestly felt the Lord talk to me through most of all those sermons and it was just a beautiful reminder that the Lord will always extend His hand and invite you continue fellowshipping with Him no matter how many times you've messed up. Like I said, I'm the one that walks away more changed and challenged!"

 This testimony is a special one... Jessica & her family have regularly been attending church & have been involved in ministry for as long as I've know them. This year, however, presented some major struggles. Jessica has been struggling through depression, suicidal thoughts, self harm & other deep rooted issues. It's been a constant battle that we've been praying for relentlessly, asking the Lord to intervene in her life. This year at summer camp, He did. Jessica chose to give her life to the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Camp is more than a fun place for a bunch of teens & kids to come together & play games. It's a place where God really gets into their hearts & lives & changes them for eternity.

In 2018...

We reached 6,168 people with the gospel of Christ! 464 people come to faith in Christ as their personal Savior and 62 people rededicated their lives to the Lord! Praise the Lord for his goodness & faithfulness!

Camps Near & Far

It’s been a while since our last update and so much has happened since we arrived back from furlough. Thato took a trip to Zimbabwe to help with some camps alongside the WOL Zim team, we assisted with our church’s Holiday Bible Club (VBS) as well as a winter camp alongside one of the churches we partner with in the East Rand.    Our team also continued with our annual camps happening at Potchefstroom (True Word Bible Church) and Mozambique (Trichardt School). The biggest thing that has happened over these past few months though it that we welcomed our third baby girl, Aliyah Mphonyana (translated ‘little gift’ in Sotho) 3 weeks early. We are thankful for the smooth delivery of our sweet Aliyah on Thato’s birthday (June 4) The pastors cooking for the campers Zimbabwe I had a privilege to go to Zimbabwe after coming back from furlough to help teach at camp. There & Back Again

It's been a month now since we returned to South Africa and have been settling back into a normal rhythm. We are so thankful for the time we had on furlough to reconnect with friends, family and supporters. It really was such an encouraging time and though it was quite busy with lots of traveling, it was also refreshing. We started out our time with some downtime with our family over the Christmas holidays. It was a wonderful and special time especially since it was the last time we were able to spend with Ashley's Pop Pop before he went home to be with the Lord in March.  We officially began our furlough the first week of January as we caught up with friends and supporters and shared in churches in Abaco, Spanish Wells and Nassau (3 different islands). We were so overwhelmed by the love, generosity and care we felt as we visited with different people and churches. Weeping & Rejoicing

The Lord gives & the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. This last month has held some really high highs and some really low lows. There has been weeping and rejoicing. But through it all, we continue to say through tears and smiles, "blessed be the name of the Lord". Just a few weeks ago, Thato and I joyfully received the news that in less than 7 months, we would become parents to our first baby. We were ecstatic and so thankful for this gift the Lord had given us. However, the excitement was short lived. Just 5 days after discovering I was pregnant, we were told by the doctor that we had a miscarriage. Though we had only known about the pregnancy for less than a week, we were devastated to hear that we had lost our baby. We struggled to understand exactly why the Lord had allowed this but we continued to trust that He is good and faithful and that he would use it for our good and His glory.
