Spring
Braai Day
On the first day of spring, we had out second annual Spring Braai Day; a day for teens, young adults & families to get together for a day of fun & of course some delicious food on the braai (aka grill). The exciting part about this day is that we get to feed people not just physically but spiritually as well. We had the opportuity that day to share the gospel with about 250 people, many of whom we would probably not have reached otherwise. It was a day to catch up with old friends & make new friends as well.

Palesa at the Spring Braai |
Palesa (pictured on the right) has been coming to youth group where I am a leader ever since I arrived in South Africa. Since I’ve known her, she has had a hardened heart towards the Lord. She’s grown up in an orphanage & could not accept what God chose to allow into her life. On Spring Braai day, I saw her sitting alone & decided to join her. After countless times of sharing the gospel with her, she told me that 2 nights before, she finally decided to trust Christ as her Savior. What a joyous moment! She finally allowed Christ to meet hunger of her heart.
Welkom Reunion
A few weeks ago, I was able to make a short trip to Welkom (about 3 hours away) to visit some of the DTC alumni. What a privilege to just spend time with them & see the ways the Lord is using them. Maya (to my left) & Grace (kneeling) are working with with a missionary family who planted a church in a local township. Currently, they are away on furlough for the next year & Maya, Grace, & Tshepo (another DTC alumni) are running the church & its ministries in their absence. It’s incredible to see the ways they’ve stepped up & how the Lord has been using them as they have been discipling women in the community, running the youth group & not to mention leading the entire church. What an amazing testimony of the Lord’s working in their lives!
SMASH Cape Town
|
Kyle & I's team |
From October 1-7, we had our annual SMASH missions trip to Cape Town. With 53 staff, interns, students & teens from 22 different churches, we split into 5 different teams & were able to minister to 9 different churches. Over the first 3 days, each of the teams had an opportunity to partner with a local church to run a Holiday Bible Club. This year was my first time leading a team alongside Kyle. What a neat opportunity to see the Lord work through the different students & teens in our group as they stepped up in their different roles. I was so encouraged seeing their hearts to serve & love on the kids, many of whom came from very rough homes in this poverty & crime stricken community. In the afternoons, we did some open air evangelism. Though it was a bit intimidating at first for most of them, they didn’t let that stop them from boldly & enthusiastically sharing the truth of the gospel with those they met. On the last day of holiday club, we had a parents evening where we invited everyone from the community to the church to see what the kids had been up to as well as share the gospel. Pastor Jeremy & the other church members were thrilled to see the amount of people that showed up since they weren’t expecting much. The small sanctuary was so full that people were overflowing into the foyer, standing by the entrance to listen. It was such a privilege for me to invest into the ministry of that church & serve alongside these people that faithfully reach out to their community. We continue to pray that the Lord uses that church, as well as the others we were privileged to work with, to reach the people of Cape Town for Christ. We are thankful for the 101 people that trusted Christ during our time there & are trusting him to continue his work in their lives!
