A New Chapter...Thailand Here We Come
Time well spent.
When I think about my
time here in Korea, the first word that comes to mind is blessed. I
never would've imagined what God would do in these short two months. I’m
so thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to aid in and witness students learn
and grow by the power of God working in their lives.
About four weeks ago, we
accepted 9 new students into the SYME program. I have had the privilege of teaching
them the book of Matthew for Bible Study class. It has been both a pleasure and
a challenge. Though their English level is much lower than my previous Bible
Study class, I have been able to see them grow in their knowledge and
understanding. At the beginning, I questioned how much they were really
comprehending, however, after the first few weeks, many of them expressed that
Bible Study was their favorite class and that they were learning a lot. It was
such a blessing to see the fruits of my labor in that way.
The great unknown.
In less than a week, as
was the plan, Heather & I will be boarding a plane for Thailand, just in
time for a group of Word of Life students to arrive for a short term missions
trip. However, what we thought would be a month in Thailand, has now turned
into 8 months. Unbeknownst to us, while we have been here in Korea, God has
been working out all the little details to get us back to Thailand. What
we thought was impossible, God made possible.
While in Thailand, will
have the opportunity to tread some new terrain and help pave the way for some
new ministries. With the recent purchase of a facility, the missionaries in
Thailand hope to expand and diversify their ministry in order to reach more
Thai students with the gospel and Heather and I will have the privilege of
being a part of that adventure. We will also be taking 3 months of language
school as was originally planned.
A bittersweet goodbye.
When I think about leaving Korea, the first word that comes to
mind is bittersweet. It’s so
difficult to think about saying goodbye to the students that I have come to
know and love so deeply, but I know that God has something great in store for
us in Thailand. After all, that is where he burdened my heart for in the first
place. Before coming to Korea, I prayed that God would make my trust be without
borders, I just didn’t expect him to answer my prayer so abruptly. However, through
all of the changes, heartache, and confusion, he has taught me to trust him
enough to follow wherever he leads, whether it be Korea, Thailand, or somewhere
else. He is faithful and his plans are always better than mine.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his
steps.” {Proverbs 16:9}
